In most movies such as "IRobot" or "Terminator" they are shown as machines or cyborgs that have enhanced abilities due to the higher level of technology that have the ability to serve humankind and also the ability to wage a war that is beyond human capability to fight.

In some media it even portrays " The rise of machines' that where the robots or cyborgs that take over humankind where they the servants become the master.Even in Japanese animes such as Neon Genesis Evangelion where the world is undergoing an apocalyptic event where high powered robots that have been researched from alien technology came to destroy the earth(www.generation5.org).
